Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue Robert S. Wertz Jr. announced this week that he recently mailed 2013 personal property filing requirement notices to more than 170,000 personal property owners currently on the county’s tax rolls, and changes are due by Feb. 1.
This marks the fourth year that property owners have been asked to complete the annual vehicle reporting process online, which eliminates the need to complete and return forms by mail for each automobile, truck, motorcycle, camper, trailer, boat, motorhome, aircraft or mobile home a taxpayer owns.
Notices include an account number that can be used by personal property owners to access the online reporting system at www.loudoun.gov/vehicle-file.
Corrections, address changes, the sale or disposal of a vehicle, or unusually high mileage can be reported, since these items might affect the property’s valuation or number of months to be taxed.
To avoid late filing penalties, report newly acquired vehicles or those recently entering the county to the Commissioner of the Revenue within 60 days of a purchase or a move to Loudoun County.
