May 20 in the Voter Registration Deadline for Primaries

Those wishing to vote in the primaries to nominate candidates for Lt. Governor, Attorney General and the GOP nominee for the 33rd House District must registration by 5 p.m. today.

Residents who want to vote in the June 11 Primary to nominate candidates for Lt. Governor, Attorney General or for the Republican candidate in the 33rd House of Delegates District must be registered to vote by 5 p.m. Monday, May 20.

Voter applications submitted after May 20 will not be processed until June 12, one day too late to vote.

Democrats Aneesh Chopra and Sen. Ralph Northam (D-Norfolk) will face off for the democratic nomination on June 11.

Chopra, 40, served as Virginia’s Secretary of Technology from 2006-2009 and was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009 to serve as the nation’s first Chief Technology Officer. Chopra lives in Arlington with his wife and two daughters.

Ralph Northam, 53, has served as a member of the Virginia State Senate since 2007. He lives in Norfolk with his wife and has a son and daughter, both in college.

Chopra has $919,815 in cash on hand, according to recent information from the Virginia Public Access Project. Northam has $307,029 in the bank.

State Sen. Mark Herring (D-33rd) and Former Assistant United States Attorney Justin Fairfax are competing for the Attorney General candidacy.

The winners will run in Virginia's general election Nov. 5, facing the Republican candidates selected this weekend at the Virginia Republican Party’s convention in Richmond.

Incumbent Joe May faces David LaRock in the GOP primary for the 33rd House of Delegates District. The precincts involved are Purcellville, Round Hill, Hillsboro, Mountain View, Round Hill Elementary, Firehouse, West Lovettsville, Waterford, Lucketts, Clarkes Gap, East Lovettsville, Tuscarora, Hamilton, Between the Hills, Greenway, Balls Bluff, and Heritage only.

Voters are reminded that the election is open to all registered voters in Loudoun County. The Commonwealth of Virginia does not recognize party affiliation when registering citizens to vote. Therefore, voters in the 33rd House of Delegates District will be asked “Do you wish to vote in the Democratic Party Primary?” or “Do you wish to vote in the Republican Party Primary?” when they arrive at the polls on Election Day.

Seven Republican candidates are gunning for the Lt. Governor nomination. There are two Republican hopefuls for the Attorney General nomination.

Absentee voting for the June 11 election is under way at the Loudoun County Voter Registration Office, 750 Miller Drive SE, Suite C, in Leesburg.  Qualified residents may vote in person at this office until 5 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, June 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Qualified residents may also apply to vote absentee by mail until June 4, 2013.  The absentee ballot application is online at www.loudoun.gov/voting.  Once completed, the application can be mailed to Voter Registration, 750 Miller Drive SE, Suite C, Leesburg, VA 20175-8916; faxed to 703-777-0622; or emailed to vote@loudoun.gov.  Once the Voter Registration Office receives the application, employees will mail qualified voters an absentee ballot. It is important that the directions are followed carefully for completing the ballot and that it is mailed back and received by or before June 11 at 7 p.m.
