The longtime county employee takes the helm of county's financial services.

Loudoun County Administrator Tim Hemstreet announced Tuesday the appointment of Benjamin W. “Ben” Mays as the county’s Chief Financial Officer and director of the Department of Management and Financial Services. The new position becomes effective Thursday, Dec. 6. Mays has served as the acting director for the past seven months.

Mays began working Loudoun in 1992 as the budget officer. He was serving as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer before being appointed acting director when Mark Adams left in May for a position with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Mays has more than 27 years of financial and local government experience, according to a press release from the county. His areas of expertise include operational budget development and management, capital budgeting, fiscal impact analysis, and debt issuance and administration.
