Northstar/Belmont Ridge Plans Changed

Supervisors vote to plan six lanes from Croson to PW line; four north of Croson, but with enough ROW for six in future.

The Loudoun Board of Supervisors has voted 8-1 to change the County Transportation Plan with respect to Route 659/659 Relocated—also known as Belmont Ridge Road and Northstar Boulevard—allowing the potential for six lanes in the future.

As approved, the action reverses a move by the previous board of supervisors that reduced the planned width of the road in some areas, including down to two lanes south of Braddock Road.

The action today calls for the road to be planned for six lanes from Croson Road to the Prince William County line and four lanes from Croson Road to Route 7. However, the 150-foot ROW for the entire length of the road would permit expansion up to six lanes with pedestrian and bicycle paths in the future.

Supervisor Janet Clarke (R-Blue Ridge) voted against the motion, preferring to plan just four lanes south of Braddock, with 150-foot right of way.
