Opposing Views On Water Protection Plans

Representatives from the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce and the Piedmont Environmental Council go head-to-head on proposed Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance

Guest columnists Tony Howard, president and CEO of the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, and Gem Bingol, the Loudoun land use officer for the Piedmont Environmental Council face off on one of the most contentious issues now before the Loudoun Board of Supervisors.

The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act adopted by the state requires certain localities to adopt the regulations to protect the bay. The Loudoun board has moved toward voluntary adoption of the ordinance, but faced significant opposition from residents and businesses who said they were left out of the process or completely confused by the results.
