Public Hearing on Taxes April 4

Supervisors to vote on next year's spending plan during the board's business meeting.

Residents can weigh in on the proposed $1.295 per $100 of assessed value real estate tax rate tonight at 6 p.m. at the County Government Center in Leesburg.

The advertised rate is $1.32, but supervisors started out a penny lower and made cuts – including $7.7 million to the school system’s requested operating budget – that reduced the proposed rate. A rate of $1.293 would result in the same amount of revenue as the county expects to collect in FY 2011, during which residents paid a rate of $1.30.

The hearing will take place prior to the board’s regular public input session and board meeting.
