Romney to Campaign in Sterling Wednesday

McDonnell raises money for Ramadan a private party in Ashburn.

Loudoun County could become critical ground for political parties this year as Mitt Romney attempts to unseat President Barack Obama and former governor George Allen faces former governor Tim Kaine in the race for U.S. Senate.

Romney is expected at EIT LLC in Sterling at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to personally present a new truck to 70-year-old Virginia “superfan” named Jim Wilson, who lost the truck he had been using to campaign for Romney in a fire, according to a New York Times blog.

Gov. Bob McDonnell, , made a stop in Ashburn Tuesday night to attend a private fundraiser in honor of Del. David Ramadan (R-87th). Tickets for that event were $500 to $5,000 each.

McDonnell attended a luncheon in Washington, DC, with Romney Tuesday before heading to a . According to his website, the govenor is no longer available for a 3 p.m. event in Richmond today. That event coincides with Romney’s Sterling visit and could present another opportunity for the two to appear together.

A who’s who of local and state elected officials were expected to attend both events.

Loudoun Democrats were quick to criticize Romney in advance of his visit. 

“Romney Economics didn’t work for Massachusetts,” state Sen. Mark Herring said in a statement from the Loudoun County Democratic Committee. “It won’t work for Virginia and it won’t work for Loudoun County.”
