Sen. Warner Raises $2.7 Million to Gillespie's $1.9 Million in Second Quarter

Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) raised $2.7 million during the second quarter this year compared to the $1.9 million raised by former Republican National Committee chairman Ed Gillespie in the same quarter.

Warner reportedly ended June with more than $14 million in his campaign fund to Gillespie's $4.1 million, his campaign announced Tuesday.

“Grassroots support from folks across the Commonwealth has allowed us to make early investments that will pay dividends in the fall,” said Campaign Manager Trey Nix in a statement. “We are communicating Senator Warner’s bipartisan approach to reducing the debt and creating good-paying jobs, both on air and door-to-door.”

Chris Leavitt, communications director of Gillespie's campaign, spoke about the announcement Tuesday.

"The Gillespie campaign continues to build momentum as more and more voters compare Mark Warner’s record of voting 97 percent of the time with President Obama and Ed Gillespie’s agenda for economic growth," Leavitt said. "The $4.1 million raised by the campaign to-date puts the campaign among the top non-incumbent Republican campaigns, and positions it well to get Ed’s positive message out to voters."

Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis reported approximately $47,000 in contributions between April and June with about $40,000 in expenditures.

Sen. Warner served as Governor of Virginia from 2002 to 2006 and was elected to the U.S. Senate during the 2008 recession.

Gillespie was a top adviser on Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign.
