Volunteers Seek $1.8 Million Loan for Ashburn Fire Station Renovation

Contract for Brambleton fire station is also on agenda for Tuesday's board meeting.

With plans to renovate the existing fire station on Ashburn Road, the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has submitted a request to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors for a $1.8 million loan from the county’s Revolving Loan Fund.

With the project estimated to cost $3.6 million, the loan pay for half of the construction. The remainder would be covered by a fundraising campaign ($500,000); restructuring the lease for a cell tower on the property ($200,000); and company assets (about $1.1 million of funding would remain). The department currently has a $94,500 loan with the county and not other debt.

The loan would deplete two-thirds of the county’s Revolving Loan Fund. The Loudoun Fire and Rescue Commission, Planning Commission and planning staff all have recommended approval of the loan.

Supervisors also are poised to approve a nearly $6.4 million contract to construct the new Brambleton Public Safety Center, which would consist of a fire station and fire marshal’s office. The 25,800-square-foot station will be located at 23675 Belmont Ridge Road and include living space and a kitchen for on-duty firefighters.

Currently, the county is wrapping up work on its newest fire station near the planned Moorefield Station Metro stop.
