York to Run for Republican Nomination

After nearly a decade as an Independent, chairman eyes return to LCRC.

County Chairman Scott K. York (At Large) has served as an Independent for the past eight years, but on Monday plans to officially announce his intention to seek the Loudoun County Republican Committee nomination for chairman and return to his former party.

York initially won election as a Republican in 1995. In 1999, after winning the LCRC nomination for chairman over then-Chairman Dale Polen Myers, Myers ran as an Independent. York won. But in 2003, after LCRC leaders chose to hold a convention to nominate candidates rather than hold a primary, York ran as an Independent.

York said Friday that more and more current LCRC members have asked him to consider rejoining the local party. He will face Steve W. Stockman for the nomination. So far, only Tom Bellanca is the only Democrat to announce a run at chairman.
