Charles Fenton Mercer: American Visionary
As part of our Conversations in History Lecture Series, Aldie Mill's Site Manager, Tracy Gillespie, will examine Virginian Charles Fenton Mercer as he creatively wrestles with classic Southern issues before the Civil War - industrialization, slavery, and political issues in Washinton. Mercer founded and built the high-tech Aldie Mill, was the first president of the American Colonization Society, and was Loudoun's Whig Congressman for many years. A tour of Mercer's nearby Aldie Mill will follow the program.
