Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office to Host Hurricane Preparedness Class

The class will be taught by An American Red Cross representative and will be held at the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Eastern Loudoun Station located at 46620 East Frederick Drive in Sterling (adjacent to Rolling Ridge Elementary School).

The class will cover, Weather Alerts, Pre-Event Actions, Supplies and Equipment, Post-Event precautions and safety, and more.

This class will also help prepare citizens to take advantage of the Hurricane and Emergency Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday in Virginia. Virginia's annual Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is May 25 - 31, 2011. During this seven-day period, purchases of items designated by the Department of Taxation as hurricane and emergency preparedness equipment will be exempt from the Virginia sales tax (as long as they cost $60 or less each).

Items including batteries, flashlights, tarps, rope, duct tape, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, bottled water, first aid kits, and many others will be tax-free. Portable generators priced at $1,000 or less are also included.
