Union Major-General Winfield Scott Hancock’s 2nd Army Corps will be at Mt. Zion Church on Saturday, recreating Hancock’s field headquarters as it would have appeared on the days leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg, when he and his corps passed through the Aldie area and encamped nearby in June of 1863. Visitors to the Union encampment at Mt. Zion Church will meet General Hancock, the newly-appointed commander of the 2nd Corps of the Army of the Potomac and learn what was involved to keep a military command of 12,000 troops well supplied and ready for battle on a long march. On Sunday, the Army of the Potomac will be on the move and will make a stop for the day at Aldie Mill, where Hancock and his staff will be on hand once again to speak with visitors to the mill, which in 1862 was operated by Unionist miller John Moore. This program is presented by the Historical Interpretive Branch of the Winfield Scott Hancock Society and is sponsored by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority
