Loudoun Schools Closed Monday

Icy weather shuts down county schools; administrative offices open at noon.

Loudoun County Public Schools will not be open today, Monday, Jan. 28, because of the icy precipitation falling in the area. The school system’s administrative offices open at noon.

you have got to be joking?
VA_in_VA January 28, 2013 at 04:54 PM
Joking? Yeah, let's make all the high school students drive today and wrap their cars around telephone poles or spin out into a ditch. I am sick and tired of all the fake outrage over ALL issues associated with the school district. Does your visceral hatred of anything related to LCPS have any bounds. Come one now, this is a reasonable safety measure for a morning completely icy roads. Please lighten up. This is NOT a controversial move.

Ok lets do that. No, no bounds! I was on the roads and they were in great shape. The Californication of Loudoun County schools.

One thing to remember is that the county has some very different areas, with very different quality roads, and the system closes or stays open as a unit. I can recall in the past a set of days with fine weather in South Riding, while the areas near Round Hill had snowdrifts that made whole areas impassable--the system closed, but the reason may not have been apparent in the areas unaffected. The same may very well be true today regarding the ice--some areas may have required a three hour or more delay to open at all.

It's quite hard for some people to look beyond their own situation. "If it's not icy here it's obviously not icy over the entire county!" The safety of the buses and teenaged drivers is too important to simply roll the dice on. Yeah, maybe by noon all the ice was gone but at 7:30am? Come on! But then again I can bet that the ONLY concern for joe is the fact that he thinks this cost him money somehow. A few extra sheckles in his pocket versus someone else's kids safety. Very sad.

So instead of the students driving and learning how to handle icy conditions for a 20 minute drive to school lets give them the day off so they can practice driving on icy roads all day. Your opinion is just hyperbole and gives way to the hysterics and the loooners.
VA_in_VA January 28, 2013 at 10:26 PM
Just keep digging your ignorant hole. You can never admit to anyone that maybe, just maybe, you could have commented a bit to quickly at 7am this morning that everything would be just fine. So what if we lose a kid or two to a car accident. Your argument is "how will they learn to drive on ice?" Really? That's kind of sick! A school bus full of kindergarten kids sliding into a ditch on the side of the road is "teaching" the kids what? I'm a "looner" for erring on the side of caution? YOU ARE THE OUTLIER HERE! Please realize that the school officials have to make this decision at around 4am in the morning. At that time freezing rain was coming down thick and the ice well formed. But you don't care. You just love to do nothing but slam the people who do care. You are a sad selfish ignorant man that doesn't give a damn about anyone but himself. Just keep picking bulletin board fights because apparently that's all you seem to enjoy.

I enjoy fighting with you Mr VA Whimpaho-ho cause I never lose when your involved. Pure bs on your part. The temp was 33 and going up at 8 and the chance for precip was going down, ohhh myyy!
Gail January 28, 2013 at 11:26 PM
You people are a lot more brave sitting behind a monitor. Yeah, the roads all over were slippery as well as the sidewalks where I almost slipped on my way to a doctor appointment. This a safety issue, so get over it!!!
VA_in_VA January 29, 2013 at 12:13 AM
joe: in your own little sad bubble you win arguments. Claiming that 33 deg a temp will melt "everything" by 10am is just silly. I nearly fell a half dozen times walking my dog at 8:30 and had to scrap an 1/8" of ice off my car at 9am. FACT: in Leesburg it never made it above 35 deg until the afternoon! 3 degs above freezing is not really a thaw. So far you're the ONLY one arguing it was a bad call. Again "winning" in your own mind.

Here's an idea -- perhaps instead of getting all worked up about Joe's comments and giving him some satisfaction in the arguments, why don't Patch readers just ignore him and not engage in these conversations? Responding to his ridiculous comments just legitimizes them and gives them more publicity rather than the comments just drifting away into the idiot ether.

I agree!
VA_in_VA January 29, 2013 at 01:41 PM
Vineet Aggarwal: True. Thank you.
