Meeting Focuses on ES-22/Farmwell Site Elementary

Plans for school near Pipeline Plaza include lighted softball field and lights for Ford, Bickel fields.

A community information meeting about ES-22, an Ashburn area elementary school, has been set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Loudoun County Public Schools Administration Building, Room 110A. The purpose of the meeting is to share information about the school project with the surrounding community.

The school system has filed the land use applications required to proceed with construction of the school, which will be located on property the county owns near Pipeline Plaza. The proposed 105,000-square-foot building is designed to house a student capacity of 875 and projected to open in the fall of 2013.

Along with the proposed elementary school are associated recreational facilities, including two ball fields, including a softball diamond. On April 5, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved funding to light the softball field at this proposed elementary school as well as two existing fields – Chick Ford and Ryan Bickel fields – at the adjacent county park. The lights are intended to alleviate the need for lights at Crittenden Park – although some in the community have told Patch the push for lights at Crittenden may not be over.
