UPDATE: At this point, plans 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 remain in contention.
An eighth proposal for redrawing school boundaries in the Ashburn and Dulles North area was added to the Loudoun County Public Schools web page about the boundary process earlier today. By 5 p.m. four more plans were added to the site.
Residents can weigh in on the various proposals during an April 15 public hearing at the LCPS Administration Building. The board is scheduled to vote on the plan April 23. A recent meeting about the proposed boundaries proved divisive as communities called on the school board to keep them whole or make them whole.
The boundary redrawing process will accommodate:
- Trailside Middle School, set to open in 2014, next to Newton-Lee Elementary School and also bounded by the W&OD Trail, Gloucester Parkway and Claiborne Parkway
- HS-6, also slated for 2014, in Loudoun Valley Estates near Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School
- HS-8, expected to open in 2015 in Lansdowne next to Belmont Ridge Middle School.
The April 15 hearing begins at 6:30 p.m., but speakers are encouraged to sign up in advance by contacting the LCPS Department of Planning and Legislative Services at 571-252-1050 by 4 p.m. April 15. Speakers may also sign up in person at the specific hearing, between 6 p.m. and 6:25 p.m. Comments generally are limited to five (5) minutes per person; however, the time may be reduced at the school board chairman's discretion [Editor's note: For this meeting, expect the time to be as short as 1 minute.]. Written comments can be sent to email@example.com.
[Editor's note: The most recent PDF is referred to as Plan 8 on the LCPS website, but there was no Plan 7. With the base plan, there are eight plans total.]
Do you prefer a plan? Let us know in the comments below, but more importantly, let the school board know.
