College Bowl Games: NOVA Natives Appearing

There are a handful of opportunities to catch some faces familiar to Ashburn.

A handful of Northern Virginia natives are playing college football bowl games in on New Year's Day.

If you watch the Rose Bowl Game presented by Vizio on New Year’s Day, be on the lookout for Stanford freshman corner Alex Carter (no. 25), who graduated from Ashburn's Briar Woods High School. Quarterback Kevin Hogan of McLean (no. 41) graduated from Gonzaga College High School, and Safety Cason Kynes (no. 41) of Annandale graduated from Annandale High School. All three play for the Stanford Cardinal team, which will face Wisconsin.

Reilly Madden of Vienna is a member of the South Carolina Gamecocks, who play Michigan in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day. Madden is a graduate of Paul VI Catholic High School.

Springfield’s Mohammed Seisay is a corner for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who face Georgia also on New Year’s Day in the Capital One Bowl. Seisay is a West Springfield High School graduate.

On Jan. 5, Stone Bridge High School's Ryan Burns and Jonathan Allen will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, while Briar Woods mellophonist William Ghrist performs in the stands with the pep band. Carter previously play in the All-American Bowl.
