After Leading Charge on Loudoun Hounds, Farren to Step Down

Farren has been the public face of the Hounds for several years.

Bob Farren, who has served as president of the VIP Sports Entertainment, for several years, announced this week he would step down as head of the organization that has been pushing for professional sports in Loudoun County, according to the Washington Post.

VIP is the group behind the Loudoun Hounds, a proposed professional baseball club, and Virginia Cavalry FC, a team expected to become part of the North American Soccer League.

VIP has faced multiple setbacks, mostly regarding the planned stadium. The 5,500-seat ballpark was initially proposed near Routes 7 and 28 as part of the Kincora development, but moved to One Loudoun as plans at Kincora stalled.

Critics have decried the move of the ballpark and suggested VIP has never intended to start the baseball team. VIP and the Hounds have held firm that they will produce a team. The team was expected to start in 2012 at one point, but now appears to be too late to participate in the 2014 season. The Hounds are not listed on the Atlantic League of Baseball’s 2014 schedule.

According to the Post story, Farren will remain part of VIP’s board of directors and VIP remains committed to both teams.

Little construction on the stadium appears to be moving forward at One Loudoun.

What do you think? Will the move help bring baseball to Loudoun? Or hurt that prospect? If the team eventually forms, when do you think they'll start playing?
