Art Monk ‘Excited’ for Garçon, Who Broke Hall of Famer’s Record

A reason for Washington Redskins fans to smile despite tough season, second loss to biggest foe. Share your thoughts.

While the Washington Redskins fell short of their annual goal of destroying the Dallas Cowboys, one member of the team broke a team record Sunday in an impressive personal outing.

Wide receiver Pierre Garçon caught 11 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown. The receptions pushed him past Hall of famer Art Monk for the most receptions in one season by a Redskin. Monk weighed in.

“I’m excited for him,” Monk said. “It’s an opportunity that doesn’t come along very often, so whenever you have an opportunity to set a record with the NFL or a team, it’s a great opportunity.”

And after a season of many down moments, Monk said he’s happy to embrace the moment, despite having been surpassed.

“Records are meant to be broken,” Monk said. “I didn’t expect to have it as long as I had it, but I’m glad the pressure is off of me now. He has the opportunity to step forward and get all the praise and the glory for it.”
