Ashburn Football Starts With Patriotic Wins

Briar Woods and Broad Run open season with commanding performances.

School doesn’t start until Monday, but football scrimmages started long ago and two Ashburn high schools kicked of their seasons Friday night in Loudoun.

The Falcons and the Spartans defeated their first opponents of the season by a combined score of 77-14 against their red, white and blue opponents: the Park View Patriots of Sterling and the Patriot Pioneers of Prince William County. starts the regular season next week at home against Robinson Secondary.

The Falcons welcomed the Pioneers to their nest in Brambleton and picked the team apart 42-14.

Trace McSorley threw for 230 yards and five touchdowns. Cory Colder added 104 yards on the ground and another touchdown.

Falcon receivers, including Cam Serigne, Matt Rolin, Devin Ramos, Tristan Miller, Brandon Polk and Jonathan Rosa, combined for 275 yards. Chris Larco, Hunter Ford, Dillon Blevins, Polk, McSorley and Miller added another 95 yards on the ground. Miller also competed two of three passes for 45 yards.

Broad Run Blanks Park View

The Broad Run Spartans shut out the Park View Patriots Friday night in a 35-0 season opener in Sterling.

Quarterback Brady Reitzel ran for two touchdowns and threw for 103 yards and another touchdown. Corey Hilberath caught Brady’s scoring pass and ran for another; he rushed for 35 yards on four runs and tallied another 46 yards on two receptions.

Da’Qwan Earl added a score of his own while rushing 11 times for 79 yards a catching a 5-yard pass. Dario Bunting contributed with 34 yards on two rushes, while Dorian Jenkins caught a 30-yard pass.

Next Week

In addition to the Bulldogs starting their season at home against the Rams, Briar Woods travels to Broad Run for an Ashburn showdown.
