Ashburn Teams Head to State Playoffs

Stone Bridge and Broad Run bring home regional championships; Briar Woods teams advance despite losses.

All three Ashburn high schools will be well represented when the Virginia High School League state playoffs start this week. , and will each send two teams to the state playoffs, with the ladies teams from each school landing five of the six bids for local teams.

Leading the charge are the girls soccer and softball teams at Stone Bridge and Broad Run. Both Lady Bulldog squads captured Northern Region championships, while the Lady Spartan softball team won the Nothwest Regional championship in extra innings over Osbourn Park. As a result of capturing their regional crowns, all three teams host opening round games Tuedsday night, June 5.

Stone Bridge girls soccer will take on Deep Run on at 5 p.m. while the softbal team welcomes Patrick Henry-Ashland at 7 p.m.

The Lady Spartan soccer team travels to Floyd Kellam for a 5 p.m. kickoff, while the softball team hosts Hickory at 6 p.m.

Even though the Briar Woods softball and boys soccer teams both fell in their respective Region II championship games, the teams' hopes for state titles remain alive as they hit the road for opening round state playoff games this week. The soccer team heads to Jameston Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game, while the defending state champ Lady Falcons head to Radford to face Poquoson Friday at 5 p.m. Directions to both contests can be found here.
