Ashburn’s Herndon ‘Rookie of Week’ Again After Late Game Winners

The former Stone Bridge soccer player continues to impress as she moves into her collegiate career.

James Madison University freshman Ashley Herndon, a former standout at Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn, on earned the title of Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, according to a press release from JMU. That’s makes twice this season Herndon has received the honor.

Herndon, a forward, scored game-winning goals on the road when the Dukes beat Delaware and Drexel. She hit the back of the net with just 41 seconds left in regulation against the Blue Hens, and then broke a scoreless tie in the 76th minute at Drexel. Herndon leads JMU with five goals, four of which have been game-winners.

JMU has been awarded three Rookie of the Week honors this season. Herndon received the award on Sept. 16, and freshman Meghan Cox (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) was named the top rookie following the opening week of the season.

The Dukes will play one game this week, a conference matchup at home against Towson at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
