Basketball Regional Playoffs Begin Monday Night

Stone Bridge girls start at home, while Briar Woods and Broad Run teams travel for opening games.

With the district tournaments concluded, the high school basketball playoffs move into the regional rounds this week with teams from all three Ashburn schools advancing.

The Stone Bridge girls are the gem of the local class after claiming the Liberty District championship and earning a number one seed in the competitive Northern Region. The Bulldogs host Hayfield Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Briar Woods is the only local school with both the boys and girls teams advancing to the regional playoffs, but Falcon fans will have to hit the road to cheer on their teams. The fifth seeded boys head to Fauquier while the sixth seeded girls travel to South Riding to face Freedom. Both games kickoff at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Last, but definitely not least, the Broad Run boys will make the trip to Sterling to face defending state champion Potomac Falls. The Panthers head into the opening round as the number one seed after compiling a 24-1 record this season and winning the Dulles District tournament. Broad Run started the season strong but stumbled some down the stretch, including an opening round loss to Woodgrove in the district tournament. The game begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
