BGR Names Fries After Sterling Olympian

Matt McLean helped relay team, including Phelps and Lochte, qualify to race for gold.

To honor recent gold medals won by both Matt McLean of Sterling, VA, and Katie Ledecky of Bethesda, MD, BGR The Burger Joint owner Mark Bucher renamed the Gold Standard at his restaurant in each of their hometowns.

From Aug. 13-31, BGR The Burger Joint in Sterling (Cascades – 46230 Cranston Street) will offer the “Matt Gold Standard,” while BGR The Burger Joint in Bethesda (4827 Fairmont Avenue) will serve up the “Katie Gold Standard.” All money from purchases of the “Katie” or “Matt” Gold Standard fries will be donated to the USA Swimming Foundation, the philanthropic arm of USA Swimming, which raises funds to support programs that save lives and build champions, in the pool and in life.

Matt won his gold for helping the 4x200 men’s relay team qualify for the final, in which the team won gold. The four members of the team that swam in the gold-medal race included Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. Read more about McLean's work in London on Leesburg Today.
