Briar Woods and Broad Run Football Win Again

Ashburn schools go 3-0 Friday: Showdown between Broad Run and Stone Bridge set for next Friday

All three Ashburn high schools picked up big wins Friday night in early season football action. In addition to , Briar Woods overwhelmed Dominion while Broad Run outlasted Forest Park on the road.

After making the trip down to Prince William County, the Broad Run Spartans scored the first four touchdowns of the game and then held on for the 29-14 win. The locations may change but the results and team leaders do not for the Spartans: Connor Jessop threw for 215 yards and a touchdown, Derril Thomas rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns, and Dorian Jenkins had six catches for 114 yards and a score. The Bruins pushed back with a couple of touchdowns, but could not recover from the inital 29-point deficit.

The win sets the stage for a huge matchup between Stone Bridge and Broad Run next Friday. The Bulldogs host the Spartans in the first regular season game between these two Ashburn powerhouses since Broad Run made the jump to AAA. The Bulldogs have long dominated AAA Division 5 football in Northern Virginia, but the Spartans are proving they may be just as big a force in AAA as they have been in AA the past several years. Bulldog head coach Mickey Thompson will face his long-time understudy Matt Griffis as the two schools battle for bragging rights in a contest between two of the best teams in the state.
