Falcons and Bulldogs Clobber District Opponents

Briar Woods and Stone Bridge prove they remain a cut above their district foes.

As Stone Bridge and Briar Woods celebrated homecoming Friday night, one thing became increasingly clear: the Falcon and Bulldog football teams appear destined to bring home district championships in a few weeks.

Briar Woods 56, Heritage 14
Briar Woods (6-1, 6-0 in the district) manhandled Heritage from start to finish to capture the 56-14 win. The Falcons raced out to an early 28-0 lead and never looked back, handing Heritage (5-2, 4-1) its first district loss on the season. The Falcon defense held the Pride's vaunted passing attack and quarterback Austin Nelson in check for most of the evening, despite some occasionally sloppy play and unnecessary penalties. Enjoy Chuck Moore's shots from the game.

Briar Woods travels to face a struggling Freedom team (1-6, 0-2) next Friday.

Stone Bridge 49, Marshall 7
Stone Bridge had a similarly dominant performance against Marshall. The Bulldogs (6-1, 4-0) amassed 424 yards of offense – including 238 on the ground – to wear out the Statesmen and run away with the 49-7 win. Rassaun Goldring led the Bulldogs’ rushing attack, scoring the game's first touchdown on a 41-yard scamper and racking up a total of 119 yards. Quarterback Ryan Burns accounted for three of the Bulldog touchdowns, one rushing and two through the air to wide receivers Stan Johnson and John Peterson.

The Bulldog defense had another stellar game, holding Marshall’s offense to less than 50 yards rushing. The only score for the Statesmen came from a fumble return for a touchdown by the defense.

Next week Stone Bridge takes on Mclean (4-3, 2-2) and hopes to remain unbeaten in the district for an eventual showdown with co-district leader Fairfax in three weeks.
