Bulldogs Blowout Highlanders in Hockey Final

Stone Bridge takes the NVSHL championship trophy with a 7-2 win over McLean.

The Stone Bridge Bulldogs became the Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League Championships Friday night with a 7-2 victory over the McLean Highlanders at the Kettler Iceplex in Arlington.

Stone Bridge led 3-0 at the end of the first period with goals by Trevor Mack, Anthony Moffa and Chris Berry, and McLean never came within striking distance. The Highlanders killed a potential shutout when Julian Kell put one past Tanner Jones in the second period, but that goal and a second by Kell in the final period were the only scores for McLean.

Bulldogs Andrew Baron and Max Florence each found the back of the net before the end of the second. Moffa slipped his second goal of the evening by the Highlanders keeper early in the third period and Parker Delaney wrapped things up for Stone Bridge with the team’s final goal of the night. Delaney, who scored a hat trick in the semifinal against Oakton, also tallied two assisted in Friday’s championship.
