Clean Sweep for Ashburn Football Teams

Briar Woods, Broad Run and Stone Bridge each captured big wins Friday night.

Ashburn high school football fans enjoyed a great night across the board Friday, as all three of the community’s teams ran a way with convincing wins by a combined score of 114-20.

The Briar Woods Falcons seemingly had the toughest test when they hit the road to play the previously unbeaten Tuscarora Huskies. But the result was something Falcons fans have become accustomed to during the past three years: a dominating defense and strong rushing attack spurred Briar Woods to the 35-6 victory and a 6-0 record. Cory Colder ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns, while Matt Rolin paced the defense with six tackles, and Trace McSorley and Darryll Gadsden each recorded an interception.

The Falcons next host Woodgrove for homecoming this Friday night at 7 p.m.

The Broad Run Spartans (2-3) successfully returned to the win column with a commanding 37-7 win over the Herndon Hornets. The Spartans relied on a balanced offensive attack that piled up 319 yards —160 on the ground, 159 through the air — to run out to a 37-0 lead. Chuck Davis, Brady Rietzel, Corey Hilberath and Da'Qwan Earl each recorded rushing touchdowns for the Spartans.

The Spartans play at home against Patriot High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Last but not least, the Stone Bridge Bulldogs cruised past an overmatched Thomas Jefferson team by the score of 42-7. Defense was the name of the game for the Bulldogs, with Christian Strahin returning two interceptions for touchdowns to help Stone Bridge race to a 35-0 halftime lead.

Stone Bridge welcomes the Langley Saxons (3-2) Friday at 7:30 p.m.
