Memorial Day Race to Support Military Charities

It’s time again to break out your running shoes ready for the summer Ringing In Hope Walk, Run & Fun race!  The theme of the Memorial Day race is “A Salute to Our Troops,” and will take place on Monday, May 28th, 2012 at Brambleton Town Center.  Runners can select a 10K or 5K race on a USATF certified scenic course, or bring family and friends to take part in the 1K walk!  The 1K walk kicks off the events at 8:30 a.m., followed by the races at 9:00 a.m. 

Race participants will have access to changing rooms and shower facilities at Sport & Health, we well as the opportunity to compete as teams. Transponder timing operated by Capital Running Company will be used to score the 10K and 5K races. Those who register by May 25, 2012 will be guaranteed an official Ringing In Hope short sleeved t-shirt. All walkers will receive bells as they Ring In Hope for great causes!  Race registration is open online now at www.ringinginhope.com and also on race day beginning at 7:00 a.m. on the main plaza at Brambleton Town Center. Early bird registration is available until May 1, 2012!

Race participants will enjoy hors d'oeuvres served at finish line, as well as family fun activities to include pony rides, barrel train ride, music, moonbounces, and more.  Following the race, prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female overall winners in each race, as well as the top three male and female finishers in each following categories: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 & over. Great raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the event, thanks to the many generous community sponsors!

Race beneficiaries include the Fisher House Foundation, who provides a "home away from home" for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury, as well as Joshua’s Hands Valiant Warrior Program, which provides handmade quilts for servicemen and women wounded while serving our country.  Unique to this event, race/walk participants can designate race registration fees to the participating charity of their choice upon registering for the race. In addition, representatives of each charity will be on hand at the event to showcase their efforts and services to the community.
