Football: Bulldogs Face Spartans, Falcons Welcome Wildcats in Next Round of Playoffs

All three Ashburn teams advance in playoffs, and all three will play again in Ashburn Friday.

Ashburn’s football teams dominated in their first-round playoff performances over the weekend, topping their opponent by a combine score of 147-13.

Prince William County’s Freedom Eagles lost by the narrowest margin – 29 points – of the three teams visiting Ashburn on a 35-6 loss to the Broad Run Spartans. Broad Run now advances to the next round against the Stone Bridge Bulldogs, meaning at least one Ashburn team will be eliminated.

Stone Bridge earned its spot in the next round by knocking off the Lee Lancers 55-7 at home. The Bulldog stadium should be packed with fans for both teams Friday for the game at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs and Spartans faced off earlier this year at Broad Run, with Stone Bridge taking the win 33-14.

The biggest margin of victory last week came when the Briar Woods Falcons declawed the Potomac Falls Panthers in 57-0 shutout. Briar Woods next welcomes the Mountain View Wildcats from Stafford. Briar Woods remains a favorite this year as the team goes for a third straight state championship.
