POLL: As DC, Bowie Push, Should the Redskins Leave Ashburn?

Localities across the region have been trying for years to pry the Washington Redskins from their current home in Ashburn. While the discussions continue, rocky notions have failed to result in solid plans.

Loudoun's elected officials are well aware of the moves afoot to lure the team away from Redskins Park, where it recently constructed an indoor training facility tentatively dubbed the "practice bubble." Earlier this year, the team received an overture from Supervisor Shawn Williams (R-Broad Run), who represents the district that includes Redskins Park, urging the team to stay in Ashburn and possibly construct its Hall of Fame in Loudoun County.

According to the DCist.com, officials in Washington, DC, are proposing a practice facility as part of the redevelopment of and area called Reservation 13 that includes RFK Stadium.

In Bowie, MD, the Gazette recently reported that a proposed road was prompted by the possibility of the team moving to that Maryland locale.

Meanwhile, discussions about possibly moving just the training camp to George Mason University appear to have fallen apart, according to this Washington Post blog post.

Recently, the DCist—and Ashburn Patch readers who voted in an unscientific poll—relegated Ashburn to being outside the DC region. Perhaps Ashburn is too far away from the team's identified hometown, DC. Maybe there's an advantage to having the park in suburbia near the region's major airport—afterall they jump on planes for games as often as they head downtown.
