Football: Spartans, Falcons Advance in Wins Over Bulldogs, Wildcats

Broad Run pulled off a squeaker while Broad Run blew out Mountain View, all in Ashburn.

Birds and warriors grabbed the glory from the cats and dogs Friday as the Briar Woods Falcons and Broad Run Spartans advanced in their respective Virginia High School League postseasons.

The Mountain View Wildcats were no match in Brambleton against the Falcons and veteran quarterback Trace McSorley, who threw for five touchdowns. The Falcons lead 21-7 after the first quarter and 42-7 at the half on their way to a 49-7 victory. Briar Woods stays in the hunt for a third-straight state championship.

Up at Stone Bridge, the Bulldogs were leading as the game was winding down against Ashburn rival Broad Run. But with less than a minute left, the Spartans crossed the goal line for a lead the defense would not relinquish in a 23-21 upset. The game marked Broad Runs first win over Stone Bridge as the team hopes to return to its championship glory of years past.
