Stone Bridge Earns Sportsmanship Award

The annual presentation honors teams in each district across the region.

Last week, the Northern Virginia Football Officials Association presented the 2011 Football Sportsmanship Award to .

The Stone Bridge Sports Boosters responding with a message of thanks to all members of the Stone Bridge community for the high game standards and positive attitudes displayed last year. Dennis Hall, commissioner of the NVFOA, informed the Stone Bridge High School Athletic Department of the award.

The award given to the school in each district that displays exceptional sportsmanship. Winning schools are chosen based on several aspects. At the end of each game, referees record the number of penalties from each team, along with sportsmanship notes including the attitude of each schools fans, coaches and players. The organization tries to discern how the coaches interacts with their players and how the players interact with their opponents. At the end of the season, the sportsmanship committee from the NVFOA reviews the records from each school to decide which schools to honor. Stone Bridge tied in the Liberty District with Jefferson High School.
