Stone Bridge Girls Fall to Chantilly in Soccer Playoff

Bulldogs had 1-0 lead at halftime, but could not hold back a second half three-goal charge.

The Stone Bridge girls varsity soccer team was stunned by the second-half surge from the Chantilly Chargers Friday night in a game that was stopped by lightning with 16:11 left on the clock.

The Bulldogs appeared to be the dominant team through much of the first half, leaving the Charger goalie looking dejected after Erin Leonard scored and leading 1-0 at the half. But in the second half, Chantilly kept the ball down near the Stone Bridge goal, finding the back of the net three times.

As lightning set in, a delay was called. As the storm persisted, the playoff match could not resume and the Chargers were declared the winner. Chantilly now moves on to the regional semifinals June 1.
