Super Bowl Trivia

Today's the big day for the the New Giants and the New England Patriots.

The New York Giants play the New England Patriots at 6:30 p.m. today in Super Bowl XLVI at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The Giants have played in four previous Super Bowls and won three of them, while the Patriots have won three of the six times they made it to the game. After today’s game, only two other teams will have played in more Super Bowls than New England: the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers; both teams have played in the game eight times. Pittsburgh has the most wins with six, while Dallas and the San Francisco 49ers have each won the game five times.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has taken his team to the NFL final four times, winning three of them. His only loss came to the Giants and Eli Manning in Super Bowl XLII, ending the Patriots’ otherwise perfect season. If Manning wins, he’ll have one more Super Bowl ring than his older brother Peyton Manning, who’s been to the big game twice and won once. For more information about past games and records, visit the NFL’s Super Bowl web page.

Today game marks the first time the Super Bowl has been played in Indiana. Indianapolis is the northernmost city in the United States to host the big game since Detroit hosted Super Bowl XL in 2006, when the Pittsburgh Steelers knocked off the Seattle Seahawks 21-10. To commemorate the Indianapolis game, the U.S. Census Bureau has compiled a collection of facts about the host city, as well as the cities represented by the contenders, in this year’s edition of our nation’s most celebrated sporting event.  Go to http://www.census.gov for more statistics about these cities.
