Father's Day at the Farm

If you dad likes putting or fishing, Great Country Farms may be the place to take him this weekend for Father’s Day.

The farm is hosting the Father’s Day Putt Putt & Fish-A-Rama Competition, which could earn participants green fees at a local golf course or a fly-fishing class with Dusty Wissmath. The putt putt tournament is Saturday, while the catch and release fishing contest is Sunday.

Registration for the golf begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, with an 11 a.m. tee time. The first 36 teams to register can play. A team consists of a father and one child. Teams can win greens fees a Raspberry Falls Golf Course, or a family pass to the Dulles Golf Center & Sports Park.

Laurance McKenna will provide live music on Saturday as well.

The Sunday fishing contest runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the farm’s half-acre pond, which is stocked with catfish, bass and blue gill—catch and release, no keepers. Participants must bring their own equipment, but do not need a license. Live bait will be available at the Farm Market on site. The person who catches the biggest fish wins. There’s also a power-hour challenge for the most fish caught from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Wissmath will perform a demo at the farm and offer a free fly-fishing class to the competition winner.

Besides golf and fishing, there’s plenty going on at Great Country, including giant slides a jumping pillow and animals. It costs $8 per child and $10 per adult to enter. Children 2 and under, Fans of the Farm, CSA members and anyone with a current or retired military ID enter for free. The price includes participation in the contests. Great Country is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
