Local Accountants Will Beat the National Chains Every Time

Don't assume that because your tax return is from a nationwide chain, you're getting better quality. It's the small, Ashburn-area firms that truly offer the better deal.

Jackson Hewitt is bankrupt. Roni Deutch defrauded thousands of taxpayers out of millions and is now closed.  Those are just two reasons why you need to work with reputable, local accountants.  There are lots of them within a 15 minute drive of Ashburn.

You'll get the "person of the day" when you call one of the national chains...someone in the US if you're VERY lucky.  And the tax settlement companies are scams that really don’t produce results.  But none of the nationwide firms offers one person who really gets to know you and your situation.  And that's what sets the local firms apart.  We do our own work, we know our clients, our clients talk to the same people all the time, and we even do our own tax return mailings ourselves.  We are reliable, consistent, and dependable.  That means it may take us some time to get back to you sometimes, but you know you're dealing with competent people and who know how to defend you before the IRS better than any of those national firms.  Best of all, we’re here today, and we’ll be here tomorrow, too.

Local tax pros save clients thousands of dollars in taxes all the time, but we don't need to scream about it.  We just quietly go about our work to provide the strongest defense possible for our clients and the best workout arrangements possible.  And if you have the ability to make a living or have assets, you are going to pay the full amount due to the IRS.  To claim otherwise or to promise otherwise is deceptive and possibly illegal.  So unless the IRS has erred or there is something in the law that’s on your side, be prepared to belly up to the bar and pay what you owe.

Local tax preparers are currently working on returns that have been extended.  This is actually great for the taxpayer.  Let's clear up a myth:  Extensions are not an audit flag.  Instead, they allow preparers to take extra time with each return to make sure we're picking up absolutely every deduction possible.  Not that we don't do that during regular tax season, but without that deadline over our heads, the overall quality of our output is better than what you get before April 15.

The big caveat is that extensions give you time to file, not to pay, so if you're going to owe, you should have already made a payment with your extension.

And by the way....the next quarterly estimated tax payment is due next week on June 15.  Businesses, remember that your payments need to go electronically; no paper checks allowed.

For more information, check out the web site of any local firm.  Just Google "accountants Ashburn" or words similar to that.  We're happy to help.  In an upcoming post, we’ll discuss how to choose a good, local tax preparer.
