Rock of Angels - First Permanent Memorial in Newtown to be Delivered today 8/12/13

Today is a very special day in Newtown CT. The Rock of Angels, the first permanent memorial of the events of 12/14 will be delivered. It is truly beautiful & I will visit it someday. I live here in VA, but not a day goes by that I do not think of them and all they have lost. This type of tragedy can unfortunately happen to any one of us given today's culture of violence. I will not forget, and I will keep hoping the world gets better for my children and yours.

I wrote the following poem for the town of Newtown, and the wonderful creators of the Rock of Angels:

Rock of Angels

A dream was created,
along Maine's coastal shores,
a rock will be delivered,
to help Newtown's soul restore.

Richard and Ryan,
and little Jayden too,
had a sweet, glorious vision,
and knew just what to do.

So they called up Noah,
and Adam and friends,
and they all joined together,
to help Newtown's heart mend.

A selfless project of love,
was created that day,
and has been blessed by the Angels,
and all who helped along the way.

They visited a local quarry,
with many pieces of cold, empty stone,
then started a journey,
to let Newtown know they are not alone.

They searched the vast quarry,
for the perfect piece of granite,
and Brian said when it speaks to us,
we will know that we have found it.

And he toiled, and toiled,
until his tired mason's hands,
had completed all the sculpting,
this wonderful gifted man.

Four hearts and an an Angel,
etched in Crayola letters and gold,
26 Angels will be remembered forever,
our hearts they will always hold.

And when they finally placed the Rock,
on the base of mussel shells and concrete,
they stared in awe of it's beauty,
their project was now complete.

The base of 26 stainless steel Angels,
will be illuminated in glorious light,
26 beautiful Angel's spirits,
will always sparkle, and shine bright.

They then loaded the Rock of Angels,
and began their long guided travels,
toward a special destination,
a sacred ground made of gravel.

And on this glorious day it will be delivered,
to it's permanent home,
behind St. John's Church in Newtown,
will lay this precious gift of stone.

And if you seek to visit this lovely creation,
made from many hours of toil and tears,
say a special word or prayer,
for those who brought it here.

And feel the presence of the 26 Angels,
and marvel in its' light and love,
they will always walk beside us,
and give us strength and inspiration from above.

Bless the Rock of Angels and everyone involved in this project. I hope it continues to bring peace, healing and love to Newtown for many years to come.

Love Kathy
