The children of Primrose School of Ashburn make Thanksgiving better for families in need.

For a few weeks the kindergarten class at the Primrose School of Ashburn has been on a mission: making Thanksgiving better for less fortunate families in our community.

The children have been doing chores around their homes to earn money to purchase food for others. “Our school’s curriculum has a very strong character-building component. We encourage personal responsibility, respect for others, and a profound sense of community. Helping others and making a difference in our neighborhoods is a fundamental part of raising an integral, balanced individual”, comments Adela Taboada, owner of the Primrose School of Ashburn.

This week the children bundled all their earnings and went shopping to The Fresh Market in One Loudoun, where they filled their carts with canned foods and long-shelf life items. At the school they boxed all their purchases, along with other food products given by their families, and packed the bus for their donation trip to the Messiah’s Market food pantry of the Ashburn Community Church.

Involving the children on a food drive, and making them an integral part of all the efforts and achievements, makes an indelible mark on them, and helps in creating a sense of solidarity with others. An important character trait for a responsible citizen.

Indeed a Happy Thanksgiving story!
