Cavalry FC SoccerFest rolls into Loudoun

An event billing itself as the premier soccer extravaganza in the Mid-Atlantic region will return to Leesburg's Morven Park for the weekend of June 29 and 30.

The twentieth edition of SoccerFest is brought to Loudoun by first-time sponsor Virginia Cavalry FC (www.virginiacavalry.com), the Ashburn-based North American Soccer League franchise set to begin play in 2014. Construction on Cavalry FC's new stadium, Edelman Financial Field, began June 4 in the One Loudoun neighborhood.

"Being involved with SoccerFest is great for Virginia Cavalry FC at this stage in our development," said Mark Simpson, Cavalry FC's Director of Soccer Operations.

Simpson owns four championship rings from his tenure as DC United goalkeeper and coach during the MLS franchise's glory days.

"Being able to connect with our youth through Cavalry FC SoccerFest is a unique opportunity to share our love for the game," he said.

The event’s extensive plans call for abundant activities both on the fields and on the sidelines of Cavalry FC SoccerFest, presented by Ace Photo, Mountcastle Plastic Surgery & Vein Institute, Belmont Cosmetic Dentistry and KickIt Soccer.

The weekend will consist of four separate sessions of four-on-four tournament play, comprising all age and skill levels for both male and female teams. Winning sides will receive individual medals in the Ted Britt Winner’s Circle for their efforts and be eligible to move onto the next stage of the KickIt national tournament.

Off the field, players and spectators will enjoy a number of soccer-themed attractions, from the Kick-Pan Challenge, face painters and inflatable games of the Kids Zone to the challenging Hogan & Sons Obstacle Course. Simpson himself will organize and run a series of on-site clinics, presented by Maid Brigade, designed to improve skills for soccer players of all ages. Registration details for these free clinics can be found at CavalryFCSoccerFest.com.

The latest renderings of Edelman Financial Field, information on Cavalry FC season tickets and the newest official merchandise will be on display in the Cavalry FC Zone at SoccerFest. The local professional team will also open its name-the-mascot contest to fans' ideas.

Food, water, first aid and a misting tent to escape the heat will be provided.

Registrations for six-player teams are being accepted at www.CavalryFCSoccerFest.com through Friday, June 21. Inquiries can be made to event organizer Brotman|Winter|Fried Communications at info@cavalryfcsoccerfest.com or 703-533-4825.
