'Best of US' Finalist: Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue

AFVRD will compete to win $10,000 later this month in a national competition highlighting the best volunteer fire departments in the nation.

Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department is among 20 volunteer firehouses from across the nation named as a finalist in Johnsonville Sausage’s second annual ‘Best of US’ contest.

The contest serves to highlight volunteer firefighters - the nation’s “unsung heroes” - that exemplify volunteerism and community service.

“This department is unique because its focus is community risk reduction," the Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department wrote in its online entry. "AVFRD responds when called, but prevention through education is its primary focus.”
