Help Trader Joe’s Help LINK

The Reston grocery store donates food each week, but relies on volunteers to transport it.

Every Friday and Saturday night, the Trader Joe’s in Reston, 11958 Killingsworth Ave., bags up food to donate to LINK—an all-volunteer Christian food pantry for Ashburn, Herndon and Sterling families in need—but transporting the food requires help from volunteers with vehicles.

Trader Joe’s prepares the items by 9 p.m. and needs volunteers to take the goods to LINK’s pantry in Herndon, where certain items must be placed into refrigerators or freezers. The store provides fresh produce, salads, meat and other items.

The need for volunteers makes a great opportunity for students who want to give back to their community or individuals looking for ways to help in the evening. The time commitment varies, depending on how much food is available, but is typically one to one and a half hours each Friday or Saturday night.
