The Research Road branch of the Loudoun County Department of Family Services houses the Family Connections Program. The department's mission is to help residents in need become self-sufficient. Some of the services provided include assistance with child care and adoption services; foster care for children placed by the court; coordination of programs that assist elderly residents with shopping transportation and housework; investigation of abuse and neglect; nutritional and financial assistance fore low-income families; and community employment and training services. The department also oversee the county's youth shelter and juvenile detention center. Ellen Grunewald serves as director for family services.
