Jim is totally wrong, Loudoun schools were not "a laughingstock" compared with anyone when…Read More "Skipper" Hatrick and I attended Loudoun County High School in the 1960s, nor since. No doubt Skip has been a good, popular, well-liked superintendent, but it's time for new and younger blood at the helm. He leaves with the community's gratitude.

Dr. H will be a very hard act to follow. The accomplishments made by Dr. Hatrick and his staff…Read More during his tenure are outstanding! I was proud to serve as Chairman on the Loudoun County School board and recieve his guidance and share in his knowledge. The school system and the enire community owe a great deal of gratitude for his service. The School Board must now undertake the important task of selecting his successor It is of upmost importance to maintain the "Climate of Success" achieved in our school system as a result of his dedication. Politics must be put aside...."Kids First"

I think it is time that this sinful life style goes back in the closet and stops trying to push it…Read More and make me accept what I know is wrong. No matter who comes out for it it is still a SIN.

Being gay is a birth defect. I don't say that to be mean. I really don't care about peoples sex…Read More lives, I have my own to worry about and not really interested in yours.
I would not be surprised if hormone therapy could make a gay person straight but that, if is it is possible, will never be known to the general public least gay people be labeled to have a birth defect, which is in fact true.

It is disappointing that coverage keeps missing the fact that Belmont Country Club and its community…Read More neighbors were split in this process. Chairman Hornberger spoke frequently about how important is was to reunite Ashburn Farm, how damaging it was for Ashburn Farm kids to be split from their HOA community and how changing boundaries has been a problem for his Ashburn Farm residents. It was fine however to do the very same things to BCC that he fought so hard against in his home community. Plans were presented to Mr. Hornberger that keep enrollment balanced, created a complete cluster alignment (elementary to middle to high school) in HS8, Stone Bridge, and Broad Run with Stueart Weller being the only elementary school split. This plan was ignored in favor of splitting just 10% of Newton-Lee students from their cluster in the name of balancing enrollment. What a shame as it was not necessary.

This isn't a sign of a functioning board. It's only a sign that the majority got everything they…Read More wanted by splitting up the minority. I would consider that a criminal board. Broadlands should build it's own HS instead of stealing the HS from other communities!

So happy to see Lisa Roth get this recognition that is so well deserved. She is hands down one of…Read More the finest teachers in Loudoun County. She is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met and really takes the time to get to know her students and help them blossom. Congrats Lisa!

I am almost 100% certain considering the Sheriff's recent budget problems that none of the deputies…Read More there were on overtime Brian. If any were on overtime shame again on the Sheriff.

There are good teachers, even great ones AND then there is Mr. Duffy - 5th grade teacher @Waples…Read More Mill!!! Don't know where to start BUT first and foremost is his knowledge & passion for teaching. He is serious about spreading the word - - of SCIENCE, that is!!! The building cannot contain his enthusiasm or platform for teaching. One simple motto engages the children every year: TAKE IT OUTSIDE.
Fabulous person as well!! Knows how to stimulate interest in topics and esp. reading!!! Hands down, TEACHER OF THE YEAR!!!

There are so many great teachers, its hard to pick only one. I'd like to tell you about Shabana Syed…Read More at the Herndon Montessori School.
When you first meet Shabana its a little difficult to figure what to make of her, as she is all at once a Mom, a Teacher, an Administrator, and an avid Advocate for children-- in whatever order is appropriate for the moment! In talking to her, her warmth and caring concern simply radiates from her-- that is, when she's not busy fluttering around the room checking up on her students, interacting with other teachers and parents, answering her email and putting out the daily class newsletter-- or any of the other myriad things she does-- seemingly all at once! And yet she always has a moment for a quick chat, or to address a problem or concern raised in any quarter-- at HMS, she is definitely in her element and in full command of her space, and she runs a tight ship.
This is the end of our first year at Herndon Montessori School, though it most certainly will not be our last. Our boys have grown and blossomed under the strong leadership and warm, friendly manner that Shabana and all of the teachers provide to our kids on a daily basis. They are well-mannered and very well behaved, they are both actively engaged in learning and drinking in the world around them. And while they have both had a number of good teachers and adult influences, I'd like to single out Shabana Syed as one of the bright lights on their horizon!
Thank you Shabana!

Dear Mrs. Solomon - if you're out there - thank you for helping me find my path! I don't even know…Read More your first name, because back in 1975-ish teachers didn't have first names, at least not that students ever knew. You were my 6th grade teacher at Hunters Woods ES and instead of yelling at me for writing poetry (when I probably should have been doing math) and surruptitiously reading books under the table, you encouraged my love of literature and even fought for me to be admitted to a GT program. HUGE turning point in my life, though I doubt you ever knew it. Now I'm an English teacher too, hoping that one day I may impact some student's life the way you impacted mine. So many thanks ...!

Ashburn Farm is 25 years old, and I've lived here (DN-28) for 18 years. When I arrived, Broadlands,…Read More Brambleton, Landsdowne, and the Belmont Country Club did not exist. In the 18 years I've been here, Ashburn Farm has endured 18 boundary changes. No other community has endured anything close to this absurdity. That is why I support Plan # 4. Not only does it keep Ashburn Farm together, and prevents this community from suffering another unjust boundary change, but it's the plan that provides the most safety and stability for the most children in all communities. Communities should stay together, and there should be no plan accepted that puts our kids in rival schools.
