Loudoun Water's Broad Run Water Reclamation Facility, located in Ashburn next to its administration building, began…More operating in May 2008. The facility can process 11 million gallons of water a day and was constructed as growth in the county outstripped its permitted capacity with the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority.
Loudoun Water, known as the Loudoun County Sanitation Authority until a name change in 2008, is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Loudoun Board of Supervisors created the entity in May 1959 to served the unincorporated areas of the county.
Loudoun Water serves the eastern portion of the county--essentially east of Route 15--and operates a number of communal systems in the county's rural area to the west. A board of directors heads up the operation. The Ashburn facility also offers education opportunities for those who wish to learn more about its capabilities.
