Sample a Taste of Greece in Ashburn this Weekend

The annual event provides a cultural immersion, and great Greek food.

The 5th annual Taste of Greece is set for this weekend at the Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department's station, 20688 Ashburn Road, in Old Ashburn. Every year, the Greek Orthodox Parish of Loudoun County fills Founder’s Hall at the first station with food, music and lots of dancing. And while the junior and senior dance troupes will each perform multiple times throughout the weekend, there are four opportunities to learn to a Greek dance (see attached dance schedule). The accompanying video was made during the January 2011 Taste of Greece. Want to sample the goods without leaving your car? Try the curbside …

School's Out and the Signs Are Everywhere.

Hollowind Hosedown cools off some Broadlands kids, who just ditched teachers, pencils and books.

Graduation and other end-0f-school celebrations are taking place all over Ashburn. While high school seniors headed out to George Mason University's Patriot Center to close out their years, middle and elementary school students in Broadlands invited the Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department over to spray them down for the second Hollowing Hosedown. Erin Hornbeck said her sister-in-law suggested the hosedown because they do something similar at her home in North Carolina. Hornbeck said it reminds her of growing up in Leesburg when fire stations served as a community hub. "When I was a kid, the fire department in Leesburg did everything," she said, adding that open houses were free-for-alls that might not  pass libel insurance muster …
