Photos: Flooding, Rising Water Continues in Loudoun

The Virginia State Police are on scene at several locations across Loudoun County, where flooding and overflowing creeks continue to close roads Tuesday. On Tuesday morning, the agency detailed its efforts throughout the storm in a post on its Facebook page. "Statewide between 12:01 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 28, 2012) and 10 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2012), Virginia troopers responded to 583 traffic crashes and 690 disabled vehicles," the post read. In Division VII, which includes Loudoun, Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax and Prince William Counties, officers responded  to 82 traffic crashes, 125 disabled vehicles and 1,0001 calls for service.  An officer on duty in Loudoun County took several pictures of flooded roads Tuesday morning, according to an …

Thunderstorms Expected in Ashburn Sunday

As heat wave breaks, afternoon storms could bring rain to community.

Ashburn might get some relief from the heat Sunday as temperatures drop down to the 90s and afternoon thunderstorms drop rain on the region. The National Weather Service predicts Sunday will begin partly cloudy, followed by scattered thunderstorms starting around 1 p.m., some possibly severe. The temperature is Ashburn is expected reach a high near 95. The National Weather Service offers the following safety tips for thunderstorms: In the event of a power outage, residents are reminded to call 1-800-DOM-HELP.

Ashburn Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 9 Tonight

Storms could bring gusts, downpours.

Ashburn and the surrounding areas are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. tonight. National Weather Service says severe storms could cause damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Storms could make for a hazardous rush-hour commute this afternoon.

Snow May Impact Rush Hour Drive

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m.; winter weather driving tips from the LCSO.

  Winter Weather Advisory Ashburn and Leesburg appear unlikely to get much of the snow expected in the region Wednesday evening, but Loudoun was tagged in a Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service. A Winter Weather Advisory for snow primarily serves as an alert that snow will cause travel difficulties and that drivers should be prepared for covered roads and limited visibility. The precipitation may impact rush hour. According to the advisory, which remains in effect until 8 p.m., 1 inch to 3 inches may fall in the advisory area; Loudoun sits on the eastern edge of the advisory area.
