Loudoun Burglary Spree Targets Gold Jewelry

The Loudoun Sheriff’s warns residents to be aware, take precautions and report suspicious activity.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a series of burglaries in which it appears the criminals are targeting homes with gold jewelry. Investigators have identified seven burglaries since December that could be connected. In most of those cases, the perpetrator entered homes through rear doors or windows while the residents were away: Deputies are patrolling these areas and residents. The LCSO reminds residents to report any suspicious behavior, vehicles or persons by calling the 24-hour, non-emergency line at 703-777-1021. Residents are reminded to call 911 in an emergency. A fast-thinking resident in Broadlands recently helped deputies nab suspects in a series of larcenies.

Ashburn Crime Report: Jan. 7-17

The following incidents were reported to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Break In at Jersey Mike’s Deputies responded to the Jersey Mike’s Subs at Ashbrook Commons after an alarm sounded around 2 a.m. Jan. 15. Cash was reported taken and there were no signs of forced entry.  Burglary/Larceny Firearm Taken from Middleburg Home A firearm, jewelry and camera equipment were reported taken from a home on the 22600 block of Foxcroft Road in Middleburg between 2:05 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Jan. 17. Judge Orders 6 Years for Ashburn Burglar

A man who pleaded guilty to burglarizing a Belmont home gets 10 years, 4 suspended; now must served previously suspended sentence as well.

A Loudoun County Circuit Court judge this week sentenced Nicholas Golden, 27, to 10 years in prison, with four suspended, for charges stemming from a January 2012 burglary in Ashburn. Golden pleaded guilty to felony breaking and entering in August 2012. A deputy stopped golden Jan. 9, 2012, after the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a suspicious man in the Belmont area of Ashburn walking on the golf course and between houses. Upon learning Golden was a convicted felon on probation, the deputy searched Golden’s bag where he found a Nook e-reader and about $10,000 in jewelry. LCSO Seeks Help in Belmont Greene Burglaries

Businesses in the community have been targeted in recent Ashburn incidents.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has requested the public’s assistance in identifying a possible suspect in a series of commercial burglaries at Village Center at Belmont Greene in Ashburn. Each year, multiple burglaries target businesses in the shopping center on Piccadilly Plaza, just off Belmont Ridge Road. In most cases, perpetrators took cash from registers or tip jars. LCSO detectives released several surveillance video stills today in an attempt to draw help from the public to identify the man so he can be questioned. Investigators believe he may live in or frequent the area. The most recent incidents occurred in October 2012 when a dry cleaner and a salon were targeted. Ashburn Crime Report: Dec. 5-16

The following incidents were reported by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Pedestrian Killed Crossing Route 28 A woman was killed early Sunday morning after attempting to cross Route 28 near the Dulles Toll Road. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of a female struck while attempting to cross the road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Investigators were working to identify the victim, who died at the scene. Ashburn Crime Report: Nov. 18-29

The following incidents were reported to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Possession of Marijuana A deputy patrolling the area near the 20000 block of Coltsfoot Terrace in Ashburn Village saw someone sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot around 12:30 a.m. Nov. 29. The vehicle’s occupant was found to be in possession of marijuana and charged with a misdemeanor. Burglarly, Possession Unlawful entry charges are pending for six teenagers who were discovered in a home on the 44100 block of Mossy Brook Square in Ashburn Village without permission at 4:45 p.m. Nov. 23. Damage to home and missing items were reported. Charges are also pending against one person found in the home for possession of marijuana. Ashburn Crime Report for Oct. 1-15

The following community incidents were reported to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

False Bomb Threat A business in the Ashburn Village shopping center reported that a bomb threat had been made at 9:45 a.m. Oct. 5. A canine unit searched the building and reported nothing suspicious. The incident remains under investigation. Missing Person Found in DC An 89-year-old man with Alzheimer’s was reported missing after leaving a residence on the 42400 block of Patrick Wayne Square in a vehicle shortly before 3 p.m. Oct. 10. Ashburn Crime Report: Sept. 14-27

The following incidents in the community were reported to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Graffiti Graffiti, including language and images described as obscene, were reported at the following locations between 10 p.m. and 11:55 p.m. Sept. 15: Tampering with an ATM Someone reportedly attempted to gain entry to an ATM on the 42400 block of Regal Wood Drive between 10 p.m. and 11:46 p.m. Sept. 14. The ATM was damaged. Burglary Power tools were reported moved, but nothing was missing following an apparent burglary on the 19800 block of Belmont Ridge Road around noon Sept. 27.
