The county will have five locations where residents may recycle their trees through Jan. 17.
While residents who receive curbside trash service can simply contact homeowners associations, town offices or recycling service provides about recycling Christmas trees, other residents may need to take advantage five sites around the county where residents can recycle trees from Dec. 26 through Jan. 17: Remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel, wire and stand from trees before dropping them off or setting them out for recycling. Anyone using a bag to transport a tree should dispose of the bag before dropping it off or setting it out. The Christmas Tree Recycling Program is for Loudoun residents only. Local farms offer cut-your-own or pre-cut Christmas trees for a fun family outing.
Within just a few miles of Ashburn there are many home-grown tree farms for a cut-your-own tree experience. Or if you are tight for time, many farms also offer trees that are already cut, as well as garlands, wreaths and other decorating accessories. Ashburn residents who want to cut down their own traditional holiday symbol need not travel far to find one of several farms.
After surviving turkey day and the Black Friday frenzy, now it’s time to start thinking about the Christmas tree. While most Ashburn residents can see the Christmas tree stands popping up in parking lots across Ashburn, multiple Loudoun farms offer the opportunity for residents to pick and cut their own firs, spruces and pine trees for the holidays. Many of the farms also offer wreaths, roping, decorating greens, homemade ornaments and holiday cheer. Tree shoppers – and choppers – will find everything from tiny tabletop trees to 40-foot behemoths (the Russian Embassy comes to Loudoun each December to shop for a tree big enough to tower in the Embassy ballroom). From Thanksgiving to New Years Day, household waste in the U.S. increases by 25 percent, or 1 million tons per week. With the ground still covered with a thin blanket of snow, the landscape at Ticonderoga Farms is a visual illustration of the term 'winter wonderland'. Through Christmas Eve, Ticonderoga Farms is hosting its annual holiday festival. This South Riding farm is located near the intersection of Loudoun County Parkway and Braddock Road. Ticonderoga is eastern Loudoun's last operating family farm. The 5th generation farm is situated on over 1,000 acres of rolling forest and fields. For those of you who like to wait up until right before the big day to cut down your Christmas tree, Ticonderoga still has choose-and-cut trees available.
