A call from a resident who spotted suspicious activity led to initial arrests; investigation netted weapon, seven arrests.
A quick call by a concerned resident resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm and six arrests, possibly providing some relief to a rash of thefts from cars in Ashburn and the surrounding area. Those arrested were charged with larceny for their alleged involvement in the incidents, which span the first two months of 2013. A half-dozen water-rescue incidents were reported countywide; larceny remains primary crime in Ashburn.
Ashburn Water Rescue A water rescue in Ashburn Jan. 31 was among a six such incidents throughout Loudoun County as motorists found themselves in deep water on county roads. Deputies responded to Belmont Ridge and Evergreen Mills roads after a 3:52 p.m. report Thursday of a vehicle stalled in standing water on a flooded roadway. Loudoun County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management personnel used a shallow-water crossing and rope-rescue technique to get the driver to safety. Additional water rescues were performed around the county. While most were in western Loudoun, another incident occurred at Evergreen Mills and Watson roads. Break In at Jersey Mike’s Deputies responded to the Jersey Mike’s Subs at Ashbrook Commons after an alarm sounded around 2 a.m. Jan. 15. Cash was reported taken and there were no signs of forced entry. Burglary/Larceny Firearm Taken from Middleburg Home A firearm, jewelry and camera equipment were reported taken from a home on the 22600 block of Foxcroft Road in Middleburg between 2:05 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Jan. 17. Pedestrian Killed Crossing Route 28 A woman was killed early Sunday morning after attempting to cross Route 28 near the Dulles Toll Road. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of a female struck while attempting to cross the road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Investigators were working to identify the victim, who died at the scene. Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies charged a woman with assault on law enforcement and disorderly conduct after she struck a deputy during an attempt to take her into custody. Officers responded to a fight in progress on the 19200 block of Promenade Drive at the Lansdowne Town Center shortly after 1 a.m. Dec. 1 and attempted to take a reportedly disorderly Franchesca L. Wiley, 26, of Leesburg, into custody when she struck a deputy several times, according to an LCSO report. In addition to the assault and disorderly charges, Wiley received a summons for public intoxication. Deputies also charged Sassafrass A. Possession of Marijuana A deputy patrolling the area near the 20000 block of Coltsfoot Terrace in Ashburn Village saw someone sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot around 12:30 a.m. Nov. 29. The vehicle’s occupant was found to be in possession of marijuana and charged with a misdemeanor. Burglarly, Possession Unlawful entry charges are pending for six teenagers who were discovered in a home on the 44100 block of Mossy Brook Square in Ashburn Village without permission at 4:45 p.m. Nov. 23. Graffiti Graffiti, including language and images described as obscene, were reported at the following locations between 10 p.m. and 11:55 p.m. Sept. 15: Tampering with an ATM Someone reportedly attempted to gain entry to an ATM on the 42400 block of Regal Wood Drive between 10 p.m. and 11:46 p.m. Sept. 14.
